If you’re like most people, you probably have an old laptop that’s just collecting dust in your closet. But don’t let that old laptop go to waste! You can turn it into a Windows 8 tablet by installing a few simple apps. To start, download the free Windows 8 app called “Tablet PC Remote.” This app lets you control your old laptop from a distance. Next, install the free app called “Windows To Go” from the Microsoft Store. This app lets you create a bootable USB drive of your old laptop so you can use it as a Windows 8 tablet. Once those apps are installed, all you need to do is connect your old laptop to the internet and launch Tablet PC Remote. Then, click on the “Connect” button and enter your login information for your old laptop. Once connected, you’ll be able to control everything on your old laptop from a distance! ..

Instructables user HackItBuildIt shares his guide to converting an old laptop into a Windows 8 tablet. You’ll need an old laptop with specs high enough to run Windows 8 and that you’re willing to do a little franken-hacking on–you’ll need to remove the screen, rotate it, add a touch screen panel, and reframe it over the laptop body. When you’re done it won’t exactly be a slender iPad, but it will run Windows 8 with a native touch screen.
